Such is the plight of women in Lahore’s Red Light District near Delhi Gate. They succumb to the illicit desires of the men who seek to exploit their suffering to satisfy their pleasure. Instead of helping these demoralized families rise from their wretched situation, they, on the contrary, employ various tactics to persuade them that selling their body is the only way out. Unfortunately and regretfully, many of these women fall prey to these deceptive male advances, believing that the solution to all of their problems lies in prostitution.
For many years, SID Akhuwat has been running a rehabilitation program for these women that have been forced into prostitution due to poverty. SID offers free mental counseling, vocational training, and education to these women as well as their children who have been harmed psychologically. However, their progress is hampered as many women find themselves drawn back into the ever-widening swell of hunger that seeks to drown them in prostitution.
Rizq and SID Akhuwat have partnered to empower these families to break this vicious cycle of prostitution and hunger. They have established a Food Bank that has supported 150 families in the first phase. These families are provided with monthly ration support for 6 months and the beneficiary status is renewed if needed. Through this targeted program, these women can concentrate on their rehabilitation and not get sucked back into prostitution. Your donation can go a long way in empowering these women to fight their hunger and create new lives for themselves and their children.
