The residents of Muslim Colony have heart wrenching stories. Many of them are migrants that have fleed from war torn Afghanistan having lost loved ones along the way. Others are daily wagers that work in the main city on bare minimum wages. The situation of food security is so dire that many families are totally reliant on the Shrine of Bari Imam for food. The Shrine is a couple of kilometers away from the Slum, however, families are willing to travel back and forth everyday for the sake of filling their stomachs. The recent Covid-19 has created a lot of problems as the Shrine now only open seldomly to entertain masses of people.
Seeing the plight of the people of Muslim Colony, Rizq has established its own food bank in the slum. The foodbank has currently adopted 150 families for a 6 month period. Rizq is also partnering with local community organizations to provide them with skills so that they can sustain themselves after the incubation period.
